Fabricated Systems for Conserving Water
The “ENVIRONMENTALIST®” is a totally self-contained system which consists of three primary components: a pump, a centrifugal solids separator and a Superior Water Conditioner®. This system will reduce the amount of discharge water that is normally sent to the drain (by most chemically treated cooling tower systems) by as much as 40% to 70%.
The pump pulls water from the bottom of a cooling tower sump and sends it to the separator which centrifugally spins out a considerable amount of suspended solids. These solids are held in a collection chamber until such time a factory pre-set, automated ball valve opens and purges them to drain. The cleaner water exits the separator and enters the Superior Water Conditioner® where the dissolved minerals, still in solution, are treated at the molecular level for lime/scale control and then returned back to the sump.
Since Superior’s treatment process allows certain dissolved solids to precipitate out of solution (when heat transfer and pressure changes take place within the cooling system), conductivity is naturally maintained and standard bleed-off procedures, required with chemical treatment, are not necessary.
The “ENVIRONMENTALIST/ZERO-BLEED®” is everything that the “ENVIRONMENTALIST®” is, and more. This system will actually conserve 100% of the daily amounts of discharge water normally wasted by most conventionally treated cooling tower systems. It is recommended, however, to drain and flush the sump (spring and fall) to remove any mud that may have collected in corners and/or other areas of low turbulence.
The “ENVIRONMENTALIST/ZERO-BLEED®” is totally self-contained and comes factory assembled on two separate skids which can be bolted together at the installation site. The primary skid is identical to the standard “ENVIRONMENTALIST®” system. The only difference is that the waste water from the bottom of the separator, which is normally purged to drain, is instead directed to a secondary skid-mounted system for reclaiming.
The secondary skid has a second recirculating pump, a two-compartment reservoir tank (which has a main well and a sump well with a float-controlled pump), a sock filter with a strainer and a second Superior Water Conditioner®.
The pump on this skid pulls water from the main well of the reservoir tank and sends it to the sock filter, which removes suspended solids (.5 micron up to 25 micron socks may be recommended by the factory, depending on the water quality at each individual installation site). The clean filtered water enters the Superior Water Conditioner® for additional treatment effect and is sent back to the main well of the reservoir tank. This water is recirculated continuously. Water level is maintained within the reservoir tank at the top of a partition wall that separates the two wells.
The “ENVIRONMENTALIST/ZERO-BLEED®” system is the ultimate in water conservation and is most popular in areas where fresh water is scarce and sells at a premium price. In some areas, the discharge of chemically treated water is prohibited and it becomes very expensive to dispose of. The ENVIRONMENTALIST/ZERO-BLEED® can eliminate this problem totally, and offers a very good return on investment. No permitting is required since there is no discharge.
